The Second Day
Extreme Architecture
Coming back down to ground level we looked above the different buildings.  These unique awnings were everywhere around us.  The architecture of these stadium coverings is and was breathtaking, to say the least.  Thousands of cables suspend the tent-like structures that are supported by mast-like poles.  The awnings are constructed of re-enforced tinted acrylic glass.  This unusual style allows for its strength and resistence to both rain and snow, which slide off easily in the ever changing weather.
The Theatron
We continued around the walkways of the park.  Almost hidden from general view we located an open concert area known as the Theatron.  The Theatron is a Greek-style open air theater that sits on the edge of the Olympiasee.  The seating is very open and provides a great view to both the event at hand and beyond to the calm waters.  A lot of local bands play here for free.
Olympiasee and Schuttberg
Looking over the water in the distance is this snow covered hill called Schuttberg, dating back to 1945.  As its name suggests, it was built from the rubble of houses destroyed in the war.

Stadium Lighting
We left the Theatron and made our way to the Olympic Stadium. We paid an entrance fee of less than two dollars and except for the maintenance guys on the field, there was no one else here. If I thought the view from above was impressive, sitting in the empty stadium was overwhelming.
Olympiasee can be seen from most everwhere in the park.  It was a little frozen over in January but the ducks and geese seemed to make the best of it. There were people on park benches and the bridge offering up bits of bread so I couldn't imagine any of them going hungry.

A final look at Olympiapark
The park was relatively deserted during our visit except for the occasional jogger and tourist but I think this made for a peaceful and leisurely visit. It was really nice.  Taking a last look around, we headed out to our next destination... Nymphenburg
