Olympiapark on the web
The Second Day
Olympic Tower
Waking up to the second day in Munich revealed bright blue skies to die for with just a hint of winter chill in the air.  It was a perfect day for touring local landmarks.  The first one on the agenda was Olympiapark, the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics.

The park covers 740 acres and boasts having its own railway station, church, elementary school, post office, and mayor.  The many stadiums and auditoriums are now host to sporting events, concerts and other venues.  Long before we arrived at the park, Olympia Tower could be seen looming in the distance.

Olympia Tower stands 960 feet high and the elevator to the top moves at a staggering 21 feet per second.  My ears popped on the ride up and back down.  From the top you can see a 360 degree view of Munich and the surrounding areas.
Panoramic View of Athlete's Village
The scenery from the tower begins here with an aerial view of Athlete's Village, former temporary home to the game participants.  It has since been transformed into student dwellings.
Olympic Hall Complex
Olympic Stadium
The Olympic Hall complex is impressive from above. The Large Hall accommodates up to 13,500 spectators and is best suited for concerts, conventions, opera and ballet.
The Small Hall seats 1000 and gives better presence for events requiring an up close, more personal feel.
Closeup of Olympic Stadium
Olympic Stadium has been serving the sports community with its eight tracks and facilities for long, triple and high jump, discus, javelin, shot-put and hammer.  But I would be remiss if I didn't mention anything about soccer.  This stadium has hosted international games, the European Cup, the League of Champions Finals and the Bundesliga.
Enjoying a far off view of the Zugspitze
Another impressive looking complex as seen from the tower is the BMW factory and museum. For a virtual tour, check out BMW World.

Notice the mountain silhouette in the background... the Zugspitze is located at the extreme drop in that silhouette.

So that was it from the top of the tower. It was time to head back down to ground level and check out the park on foot.
