Other Occurrences of Trogo
Outside of John 6, trogo is found twice elsewhere in the New Testament: John 13:18, and Matthew 24:38.
The first occurrence of trogo comes later in John, in the words of Jesus at table during the Last Supper. "I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'HE WHO EATS MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.'" (John 13:18) This is in reference to Judas, who was referred to in John 6 following its many instances of trogo (John 6:64, 70-71). In John 13:26, Jesus gives Judas a "morsel". Judas eats it, and then goes out into the night to betray him. These instances of trogo link Jesus' discourse to the Last Supper.
The second occurrence of trogo is in Matthew. "For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark" (Matthew 24:38).
Note that neither use of trogo is figurative. The first instance of trogo in John is in Jesus' discourse. The second comes at the Last Supper. I suggest this is evidence that the discourse teaches about the Last Supper and Holy Communion.
Here is another observation: trogo is used in relation to a supper, the Last Supper, and to marriage celebrations. These themes appear together in the book of Revelation in the marriage supper of the Lamb.
Let us be glad and rejoice and give glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb is come: and his wife hath prepared herself. And he said to me: Write: Blessed are they that are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith to me: These words of God are true. (Revelation 19:7, 9-10)
