The Predicted Betrayal
As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. (John 6:67)
Jesus answered them, "Did I Myself not choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is a devil?" Now He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, one of the twelve, was going to betray Him. (John 6:70)
So after receiving the morsel [Judas] went out immediately; and it was night. (John 13:30)
After the discourse, Jesus predicts the betrayal to come at the Last Supper. There are significant connections between the two events to indicate that the discourse is about the supper.
After the discourse, many disciples abandon Jesus. At the Last Supper, Judas will leave Jesus too. Those at the discourse received teaching on the Bread of Life and refused to accept it. Judas will received the actual Bread of Life and then betray Jesus. The Greek word Trogo is used only once outside of John 6 in John's Gospel and that is at the last supper in reference to Judas.
"I do not speak of all of you. I know the ones I have chosen; but it is that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'HE WHO EATS (Trogo) MY BREAD HAS LIFTED UP HIS HEEL AGAINST ME.'" (John 13:18)
