Jesus' Reaction to the Abandonment of Many
As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore. So Jesus said to the twelve, "You do not want to go away also, do you?" (John 6:66-67)
Many disciples reject his teaching, reject him, and go their own way. Jesus does not chase after them. He simply asks the Twelve, You do not want to leave too, do you? Jesus' attitude seems to be, "Take it, or leave it"
Simon Peter answers, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God." This somewhat befuddled though trusting and heartfelt response is precisely what Jesus desired to hear from all of his followers. Everyone had comprehended what Jesus was teaching. Some accepted it, but many refused to.
