Suspect in cat torture denied bail
The Globe and Mail, March 12, 2003
Toronto A man accused in the videotaped torture and killing of a cat was denied bail at a court hearing in Toronto Wednesday. Matthew Kaczorowski, 21, was arrested by Toronto Police Saturday in Vancouver and charged with mischief.
Mr. Kaczorowski is accused of appearing in the videotaped torture, skinning and killing of a domestic cat in a Toronto rooming house. When arrested, Kaczorowski had a cat and a dog, apparently unharmed, at his home, a newspaper reported.
Anthony Wennekers, 25, and Jesse Power, 22, were sentenced a year ago to time served in custody and 90 days respectively after pleading guilty to one count each of cruelty to animals and mischief.
Mr. Power argued that the video was an art project. The Crown is appealing Mr. Power's sentence, a case set to be heard in May.
