Protest Guidelines

This will be a peaceful, nonviolent protest. Also, please do not threaten anyone, either in speech or on your sign.

The police will be present—Suzanne has discussed our plans with Detective Henry of 53 Division. We have a good relationship with the police and want to keep it that way. Please treat officers with basic courtesy, and abide by their requests. Having a police presence is to our advantage, it ensures our safety. We will not support anyone who engages in acts of violence--these people will be dealt with by the police.

If you can bring a sign, please do. We encourage people to use recycled cardboard boxes though this is not a requirement. Use thick black marker and large letters that can be read at a distance. We will have some signs on hand but it is a good idea to bring your own just in case we run short (and if you can, bring an extra!) Do NOT put your sign on a stick, as signs on sticks can be misconstrued as weapons.

Please do not move or block the view of the Kensington memorial.

Other Things You Can Do

What happened to Kensington, and in particular the very lenient sentences received by the perpetrators, is a reminder of why Canada needs tougher laws against cruelty to animals. We urge everyone to contact Prime Minister Paul Martin, Minister of Justice Irwin Cotler, and your Member of Parliament and remind them that Canada needs better laws to deter future Jesse Powers.
