Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Among the earliest emigrants to the New World were Diego de Arrieta, who sailed to Hispaniola in 1535 with his daughter Ana, and Juanes de Arriola, who sailed to New Spain in 1536. Nineteenth century migrants included Edwardo, Franco and Juan Arriola, who moved to Texas in 1835.
