FARLEY was the family pet sheepdog in Lynn Johnston's 'For Better or For Worse'. An identical son EDGAR replaced Farley after his drowning. To my recollection, this is only one of 3 cases in which a main comic strip character dies; the others being John Darling + PALIVVER
