Self-awareness: I am not a violent person and I am not a dangerous person, but the bottom line remains that anyone can be pushed too far. Any honest person with self-awareness knows that he or she can be pushed too far. The safest person in the whole wide world is probably a non-abuser who knows exactly where that too far point is and can speak about it, warn about it, giving the abuser a fair opportunity to stop abusing. The trouble with abusers, one of the troubles, in that they are incapable of taking any real responsibility for their abusive behaviors. Abusers are always blaming the victim for whatever abuse they perpetrate upon that victim. There are inadequate resources to help both victims and abusers. Women flee from abusive situations and end up homeless and/or on welfare. Women who run away from abusive marriages find themselves struggling to make ends meet so that they may exist in low-income neighborhoods. Women who escape an abuser suffer through working two jobs so that they can scrape through school while caring for children and paying the daycare center 1/2 their salaries each week. Children are uprooted from quality houses and neighborhoods and plunged into near poverty or poverty so that mother can get away from the abuser. Older children learn to run with the wrong crowds and get into trouble in low-income neighborhoods. Sometimes the outcomes are happier and sometimes they are worse. What's wrong with this picture? Everything! The cycle continues in endless loops of terror and despair.
