Interview with Nargaeh'nroth of
Hails, how's it going?
"Winter's finally coming back and its snowing for the first day outside som I'm feeling rather calmed and relaxed sipping a coffee, thanks.

Can you tell us a bit about the band?
"Yeah, for the lazy fucker in all of us I'll just go ahead and resume the bio from our website basically. Unquintessence started back in 1999, but the former members we're doing Black/Death Metal way before that, but its not until we got Scythrawl on drums (who is now in Nefastus Dies and Ex-Trails of Anguish) that we officially took off. Back then we were 4 in the band but of those member only 2 are remaining and now the band is formed by Me, Nargeah'nroth (also known to some under Gab. 357 from Ion Dissonance, and I am currently writing guitar and doing vocals for
Unquintessence), Scythrawl (still on drums) and Ill-Fate (doing bass and guitar, he's also vocalist in Nefastus Dies). Now if we go back a bit, the band initially broke up (in 2002) cuz of some ex-member takin part in too many illegal activities to go on with the band and when we decided to keep on going without him, it just wasn't the same and the motivation was gone, also at the moment Ion Dissonance we taking form and taking most of my time, so I decided to stray away from Black Metal for a while just to see how it would work for me... ... Now 4 years later, us 3 have always been talking about recording a new record eventually, in order to do an entire full-length and now have Unquintessence die after only a MCD, so slowly but surely we started working on new stuff, and hopefully we'll record them as soon as possible."

Unquintessence is working on a new cd after a 5 year silence. Can you tell us about this?
"Well I won't say its gonna be that different from what we did back in the days, maybe just a tad more experimental and more professional in general. I mean we have  all become more proficient musicians and our goal with the new album would be to remain as true to what we were before as possible but also to push the savagery up a notch in the process as well. Its gonna be pure violence all the way for sure."

Why did Unquintessence part the first time?
"I think I already answered that one. But also people have to understand that in those days we truly lived the lifestyle and not just playing music, which means intense fucked-up events almost everyday of our lives, and sometime we really went ahead and did crazy stuff that could put us away for good...looking back I guess we were pretty lucky to be here still to talk about it."

Back to this album, is the music going to be the same or have there been some major changes?
"Like I said, it'll probably be more hum...'tight' that's for sure, but overall, soundwise too, Hatred will prevail before anything else."

Can you tell us about 'Structures of Obscurity,' is it still around?
"No, that was basically a failed attempt to grow a larger and more powerful scene within the black metal circa in the province of Quebec. But as always most people are not serious enough in these matters and tend to bitch a lot, fucking pussies. So it was pretty much useless to try and did something like that, we were naive I guess. And now... I can still only count on my fingers the numbers of Black Metal bands from Quebec that I hold respect for. Anyway once we'll get our next release out, we'll simply Murder them! I'm serious they can even come and argue about it, we'll punch their teeths out and murder them."

The Ruined ep was your first release by Galy Records, yet your demo :Nil:Solaris: was never released. Will this demo someday be re-released properly?
"Absolutely not, if you were unfortunate enough to get your hand on that piece of shit tape we'll I'm sorry. You have to understand that this recording was just us, being completely hammered playing live the very first (and bad) songs we ever wrote, and the result was horrible. To re-release it would be pointless."

Musically and Ideologically how has Unquintessence changed since :Nil:Solaris: demo era?
"Evolved yes, change? not really. Unquintessence has always been and will always remain the one and only solution to the "mankind" problem and its absolute Nemesis...we might not have all the answers, but we'll raise enough doub and questions to raise Hell along with us."

Well that about wraps up this brief interview. I would like to thank Nargaeh'nroth of Unquintessence for taking the time in completing this. The last words are yours.
"We've warned you before, why did you have to make us bring back the beast?.............now I truly know that we're all cursed."

Nargaeh'nroth
"Chaos does bear its own reasons, for no greater purpose than its continuing existence."
