Interview with Vardalv of
Hails, how's it going?
"Hails there, everything is going great now, Throne of Katarsis is negotiating with a Label these days, which Label is to be announced at our web site www.throneofkatarsis.com as soon as the deal is closed.

Can you tell us a bit about Throne of Katarsis?
"Well, it all started when me (Vardalv) and Grimnisse met in September in 2002 at a party. At the time Grimnisse was looking for a drummer, as he wanted to form a band playing nothing but grim black metal, the old school way. GRimnisse and me had the same music interests, and when Grimnisse heard that I was a drummer, we gave it a shot. We both wanted to create black metal the way it was done in the early 90's. Shortly after Throne of Katarsis was formed."

The demo 'Blodslakt' has it been released yet, officially? If not, why?
"Blodslakt is our second demo, but it won't be released. This is because the material on 'Blodslakt' will be available on our full-length, and we don't fell like releasing the same material twice."

So how did the recording of your first full length turn out? When will it hit the distributions? I am aware that this album was recorded in Black Dimension Studios.
"The recording of the full length went great, when the deal with the label are closed, it won't take long before the unholyness hits the masses. The full length was recorded and mixed at Black Dimension Studios. It is the studio of Stein Sund from Thundra, and ex-Einherjer member. It is a really great studio. Stein Sund really knows how to work with those switches."

Can you tell us about 'Unholy Holocaustwinds'?
"This was the first demo we recorded, and we had no big plans distributing it. But the feedback was overwhelming so we decided to send it to reviewers in web- and magazines. We still get a lot of orders from around the world. The two first tracks 'Funeral Moonlight' and Symbols of Winter' were recorded the 15th and 16th of March 2004 at Worship Studio on a 4-track cassette player. The recordings where done in eight hours, due to a lock of time. The last track 'Skogens Kall' ('The Call of the Forest') was recorded the 26th of February 2004, partly in the Liarlund Forest and partly in Sound of the Dead Recordings."

Throne of Katarsis uses acoustic guitars in their music, which sounds incredible the way it's put together. Not many can pull that off. Who's idea was it to incorporate acoustic guitars and why?
"The Allmighty Grimnisse had the idea of combining acoustic guitar and grim black metal long before we got together, this to add more atmosphere to the music. The acoustic guitars are used on every track on the forth coming album, and will continue to be an important part of THRONE OF KATARSIS in the future as well. We're able to attach more feelings to the music using this techinque, as well as creating more dynamics to the whole album."

Throne of Katarsis has played live shows, who were the session musicians?
"Stein Sund on bass guitar, and Rene Alvestad on guitar. These are great musicians, we could not do it withouth them."

Having played this live show with these people, has Throne of Katarsis thought about making them full members or will it only be Vardalv and Grimnisse?
"No, we're satisfied with the lineup as it is, I don't think Throne of Katarsis would be the same if we had more members. I guess we are too selfish to have more members. Me and Grimnisse work perfectly together, so we won't change that. I'm taking care of drumming, and Grimnisse does the rest. This suits us just fine, as we've got full control with the music this way."

Some of Throne of Katarsis' songs have been recorded in a forest, who came up with this idea? What difference did you notice between the studio songs and the ones recorded in Liarlund Forest?
"The last track on 'Unholy Holocaustwinds', 'Skogens Kall' was partly recorded in the woods of Liarlund. THe title means 'The Call of the Forest' and is more of a pure atmospheric travel in the dark, adding the nature directly onto this demo. This track was composed and recorded by Grimnisse, while waling through this forest, and clearing his mind.?

Having recorded the songs in Liarlund have more of an impact on the song? Was there more inspiration for you guys?
" Themes of the Norwegian forests is a part that repeats itself in our lyrics, and inspiration from the forest will probably be a part of Throne of Katarsis in the future as well. We have a quite unique nature up here in the north with great mountains and cold winters as well as the mighty forests, but of course, the fact that oldy mythology is a part of Norways ancient history gives us inspiriation too."

Well that about wraps this brief interview. I would like to thank Vardalv of Throne of Katarsis for taking time in completing the interivew.

The last words are yours.
