"I'm fine, I have broken my arm..."
To commence this can you give a brief history of the band and your role in it?
"Naer Mataron were gathered back in the year 1994 with the aim to play Hellenic pantheon, with virtues such as prind and honour drawn from periods and heroes of European history. We have released 5 albums. With line-up Vicotnik, Indra, Warhead, Nordvargr, and me."
No new material has been out since the split with Voic of Hate(2006), but 2008 will bring with it "Praetorians". Can you tell us about this new creation?
"Yes, we recorded our new fifth album in June 2007, titles 'Praetorians". The recording took place at 'Suprevillian Academy Studio' in Norway. Vicotnik did once again the production he is also our new singer. We also did our video clip for the new record entitled 'Incarcerating Gallantry'.
This new release will not be the first time Naer Mataron will collaborate with Vicotnik. If I do recall right he also participated in 'Discipline Manifesto'. How is it collaborating with Vicotnik? Has he been an influence for Naer Mataron?
"Vicotnik is a mastermind, a guru of black metal, he has been doing this thing for many years and he knows how Naer Mataron should sound. We asked him to create a personal and unique sound for us, which is more obvious in our new album 'Praetorians'.
What can we expect from 'Praetorians'? Musically how does it differ from your previous albums? Is it more brutal, technical, ect?
"I could say that this is the most brutal work we have ever done and perhaps the best. I am very satisfied by the result. It has pure black metal feeling from 1992-1996."
"When Black Lotus released the 'Discipline Manifesto' album they closed down and there was no promotion for this album and we prefered to spent our time trying to find a more suitable record instead of going on tours in order to promote the album. From that point we had to hire a manager in order to take care of everything. In a few months she brought us a few offers and we chose Season of Mist."
Naer Mataron has toured Europe, has the band not been contacted for any shows out here in the US?
"It is difficult for a band from Greece to go in the US as there is the problem with visa. Also, some have a problem with their criminal record."
Fans will compare your music endlessly, but how would you describe your music/sound to someone not familiar to Naer Mataron?
" BRUTAL BLACK METAL!!!!!"
