Autumn

by Carlos Rull

written on September 9, 1980

When leaves fall,
and begin to crumple
beneath my feet,
I will remember those leaves,
on the last winterof my life.

I will let autumn
be that of calm and wisdom,
and remember the splendors
of past romance,
the joyous energies of youth,
and memories of a carefree life.

When winterfinally arrives,
I will also remember
the springof  youth,
and the summer of  life,
not with regrets and wishes,
but with tranquil smiles
and peaceful wisdom,
realizing that,
like nature's will, our lives are all a
part of the cycle of seasons
that our lives are bound.

And yet, as the winter's snow
again yields to the flowers of spring,
the winter of our lives
will yield to a new spring...
...and a life anew.
