Sushi Bar Kazumi I had lunch today with my wife at Sushi Bar Kazumi in Hillcrest. Kazumi is the sushi chef and owner, and we know him personally and have known him for a good number of years. He's a superb sushi chef... and brings the art of sushi to a high level. I had some Anago Sushi today (freshwater eel)! Along with the Anago I had vegetable and shrimp tempura, sesame chicken, rice, salad and miso soup. I must not forget the green tea. ~~~
Here is today's Zen Koan: The Inner light is
beyond praise and blame.
Well, this Zen book I'm reading talks about the limitless space within where thoughts arise, and where the subconsciousness mind IS, that experiences everything. Supposedly, Zen focuses on the "Buddha-nature", or this space beyond good and bad, which is the law of opposites or "karma", the wheel of dharma. I have a hard time trying to grasp this "Buddha-nature", but I understand the law of opposites (the yin and the yang), and I see this as a universal phenomenon. In everyday dealings with people, I see the praise and the blame in all aspects of life. Everyone has opinions. I see Zen as focusing past the reactive mind, which formalizes opinions about the surrounding world. I suppose seeking praise or seeking blame is a way to acknowledge the ego, the self. But if we ARE an individual wave of the sea, so to speak, then we truly are at one with the universe. I see this in the way humans exist, as a long chain of generations and generations of humans. Our individual selves pass on, but as a whole, we pass on ourselves to new generations. We are but links in a chain, or waves in the sea. But we are at one with everything. ~~~ Zen Koan of the Day: The Inner light is beyond praise and blame.Current Listenings: Beethoven ~ Moonlight SonataCurrent Readings: The Zen Koan Card PackRecent Films: A Simple PlanRecent Videos: Buddy Rich ~ Jazz Legend |
