The Only Inspiration

All I remember at this time was my wife talking to me as I lay there in bed.   I know she was reminding me about my older son's appointment with his orthodontist,  so I caught that much of the conversation,  then I slowly drifted back to sleep.

The Orthodontist's Office

My son and I arrived at Dr. Kopecky's office just after 12 noon.   My older son had another appointment with his orthodontist.   He has these expanders attached to the roof of his mouth that are there to help expand the upper jaw,  to match the development of the lower jaw.   I have this turnkey that cranks the expander a notch,  and I'm supposed to crank this one turn per day for the next seven days.   Everything seems to be going well so far.   It's a good thing that we pay in monthly installments:   These braces will cost us a whopping $1,500.00 for this year.   Next year,  the yearly cost will be $1,700.00!   *Ouch*

I practiced very hard on the practice pad today for roughly two hours.   I went over some rudiments,  opened to closed rolls,  and some very fast,  hard solo routines.   I now have a complete respect for Buddy Rich and I can tell you that no one,  absolutely no one has played as fast as he did when he was alive.   To maintain the intensity and the power to solo at ultra-fast tempos is madness.   Usually,  drummers play a flurry of rudiments at a nice medium tempo,  giving the illusion of playing fast,  but to play a flurry of various rudiments at "mach-8" tempo is totally insane,  but IS something to work toward.   I am truly sore right now from the exertion,  but now that I'm on vacation I can test myself,  without the fear of not having anything left for the gig.   The next step is to set up the kit in the garage,  record myself and video myself playing drums so I can give myself a complete analysis and critique on my own playing.   I still need to clean out the garage before I can set up the drums there.

Landmark Theaters In Hillcrest

My wife and I saw a superb movie tonight,  "Shakespeare In Love",  starring Joseph Fiennes  (brother of Ralph Fiennes)  and Gwyneth Paltrow.   This is without question the best movie I've seen in a long time,  and I intend to see it again in the movie theaters...   I think it's THAT GOOD!!!

In the elevator on the way up to the second floor where the movie theaters were,  my wife and I were totally surrounded by a group of gay men,  I mean they were totally "flaming gay",  no doubt about it and they would be the first to tell you,  I'm sure of it!   But they were talking about how this was their umpteenth time to see the movie and they kept coming back to see Joseph Fiennes.   I hate to admit it but Mr. Fiennes has got to be one of the most attractive new actors out there today.   The only thing that reassures my "heterosexuality" is the fact the I adore Gwyneth Paltrow.   She's a beauty and a very fine actor.

The phrase,  "Love is the only inspiration" truly sums up what this movie is all about...   I loved this movie so much that I feel like seeing it again tomorrow!

As I ponder over the new chronological format my journal entries have taken,  I'm wondering if this new style of writing is a good idea.   I guess what's good about it is the fact that I can see what my day looked like.   But then again I wonder if the new format turns readers off,  that it makes my entries seem hum-drum.   Oh well,  if anybody is reading this,  please let me know if this new format is a good idea or not by sending an email.   "Inquiring minds...   y'know".
