The first revision of the site is now online. Please stay tuned for updates, as more information will be added.
As mentioned, my name is Louis Armstrong, commonly known as Satchmo. I played the trumpeter, composed music and sang. My career spanned from the 1920s to the 1960s, covering many different eras of jazz.
I was born on the fourth of July, 1900, in New Orleans. When I was eleven, I started singing with a quartet. I developed my cornet skills with the New Orleans Home for Colored Waifs, after which I played in brass bands and riverboats.
In 1922, I moved to Chicago, where I made my first recordings.
