The North West Peninsula - At the tip of the north western peninsula about 20 minutes drive from Port of Spain you will find Chaguaramas, a former World War 2 US naval base. Over the past few years it is slowly developing as the playground for the city and the general population including the visiting "yachties", many who come here to repair their boats and also to take advantage of the safe harbour offered by the sheltered peninsula during the region's hurricane season. The densely forested  Northern Range run through the area and there are many hiking, biking trails  and also good bird watching opportunities. There are many bays and beaches that are relatively calm and are utilised mainly by the locals. There are a lot of marinas in the area with some fine waterfront  restaurants, gift shops and pubs also there is an abundance of weekend night life when the discos come to life. Some of them are literally on the waters edge. A must to see while you are here is the Chaguaramas Military History and Aviation  Museum which is run by my good friend Captain Gaylord Kelshall (Ret). The museum houses probably the largest collection of historical military artifacts in the Caribbean. You can contact the Museum to arrange tours, etc. at  868-634-4391. More
