Lana ran hurriedly through the streets, straight toward the jail. She was glowing bright green with the power of her raw magic. The door burst open in front of her, and tentacles of magic sprung from her fingers, knocking out the guards. The lock on the jail cells, however, remained. Lana couldn't believe those idiots arrested Jonathan. He had never done anything to them! She zapped the lock with a bolt of magic, but it didn't open.
"Darn it! Magic-proof!" she screamed. Since she couldn't open the door, she sent herself into the cell and tried to grab Jonathan. She found herself in an empty cell, however, and when she tried to get out, she couldn't.
A few hours later, a man came in. He was tall, probably 6'2". His black hair shone, and he radiated power. His eyes were very dark green, and his hands glittered with black fire. He shot a bolt of sizzling black lightning at the lock, and, to Lana's surprise, the lock fell off and the door opened slowly.
She ran out of her cell and freed Jon from the next cell. "Hurry up! We have to get out of here, now!" the man called, looking behind him at a group of running policemen quickly surrounding the jail.
"No problem there!" Lana called. She whispered a few words under her breath and pointed at the group of policemen. Bolts of magic shot from her fingertips, leaving a snoozing pile of men, simply laying there.
"Well, since that is no longer a problem...I'm Michael. I haven't time for an explanation, but you two need to follow me before they wake up." Michael, Jon and Lana left quickly, pushing through the heaps of snoring policemen. As they get further away, Michael started explaining his story. "I'm sorry I startled you back there." he started out.
"Oh, it's okay. I mean...I couldn't have gotten out of that cell without your help. Thank you." Lana mumbled, sounding slightly embarrassed. They walked in silence for a few minutes, then Jonathan spoke up quietly.
"I guess I'm on the run now, too." he whispered, looking very worried. Lana patted his shoulder, trying to be reassuring. He was so young! How could something so awful happen to someone so innocent?
Suddenly, Michael turned to them. "They've found our trail. Here, take my hand." he rushed, holding out a very strong hand. Lana took it, and Jon took hers. Seconds later, they disappeared with a loud pop.
They reappeared in a cabin in the middle of the far-off woods. A chill ran down Lana's spine as Michael's dark eyes met hers. Lana shifted her eyes downward and said, once again,"Thank you for saving us, again. I never would have ben so foolish if they hadn't had Jon. After all, I couldn't leave my brother in prison just to save my own skin." Michael lifted her chin and stared into her mesmerizing eyes. Suddenly, he whirled around to face Jonathan, who's eyes were once again out of focus. He stared at him harshly, and Jon popped out of his trance.
"Never try and invade my mind! There are things buried deep in my mind that would kill you if you invaded their space!" Michael bellowed, rage bubbling over his mental shields, but Lana knew that deep inside him, Michael was just concerned for Jon's safety. She laid her hand on his arm, drawing his gaze back to her. Once she had his attention, she began thinking calming thoughts at him. Finally, he visibly began to calm down.
Michael whispered, "I'm sorry." to Lana and Jon, turned and walked quietly out of the cabin. Jon started to go after him, but Lana held her brother back.
"He needs to be alone for a little while. Let him go." she stated, trying to convince herself this wasn't happening-not to her, not-falling in love?
