My Heart's Desire

I looked upon his shadow, watching as it crept forward over the stage floor. One thing I didnt want was for him to see me like this, tears streaming down my face. I grabbed the ladder to the catwalk, walking slowly up using stealth over speed.

He didnt hear me, and I watched closely as he stroked the shirt I had left sitting on the chair below me. I gasped, unsure of what to do. It seemed incredible that he hadnt yet heard my heart pounding in my chest, pushing to escape.

He picked up the shirt, gently rubbing the silken fabric as he took a deep breath of the scent.

Brad suddenly looked up, blushing in embarrassment when he saw someone watching him from the catwalk. I knew he couldnt tell it was me; I was too far into the dark.

I let my face move slowly into the light, starting to climb down when I heard him gasp, his breath seeming to catch in his throat.

Kayla? he called in a stricken whisper, his voice low and filled with intense love and desire. I quickly smiled disarmingly, making it obvious that I wasnt upset about what I had just seen.

He let a hesitant smile appear onto his fair face, shyly but easily lifting me off of the ladder, setting me down at his side. His shyness was one of the things I loved most about him, and in this moment, I found it even more attractive than ever before.

IIm sorry, he cried, unsure of what to do. A pang of sorrow went out to him from my heart, and I gently put my hand on his shoulder.

Dont cry, Brad. There is nothing to be sorry for. I whispered quietly, leaning over his shoulder to gently let my lips brush against his cheek. He blushed deep red, a bit shocked by my actions.

I thought he trailed off, unsure of what he wanted to say.

You thought what? That I liked Sam? Really! You dont think I would tell Sara that I was in love with my best friend, do you? He blushed shyly, and timidly shook his head. Brad, you mean more to me than anyone Ive ever met. Since the day I met you, I knew there was something special about you. It just took me awhile to realize what.

By this time, he was blushing a deeper red than that of blood, completely surprised by this startling revelation.

Youyou really love me? he asked, his voice filled with wonder and shock.

Yes, I have for quite some time. I said shyly, knowing that if I had been wrong about how he felt, this was probably the end of our friendship.

But for all my worries in the opposite direction, I probably would have noticed him sneaking up to me, and letting his arms slip around me.

Good thing, because I want you, and I always get what I want, he teased, lowering his lips to mine. His teasing manner surprised me-he had never acted this aggressive, or even assertive, before.

The kiss wasnt mind-blowing, in fact, it was rather clumsy. But it was still a kiss-a kiss we had both longed for for some time. It was a beginning.

A/N: This is a one-shot.
