Betraying the Dragon

James ran his fingers through his dark blonde hair in frustration, a grim sigh escaping his lips as he failed to get the program running, yet again. He had been trying for three months now to get the blasted thing working, and by this point he had given up all hope. After all, the idea was preposterous to begin with. Computers didn't like him, nor he them.

Just as he was about to stop for the day, Victor walked into the lab. The young boy was very close to James, and they had become best friends over the three years they had been working together. Though he had started out as James' assistant, Victor had a very good understanding of the work they were doing, and he eventually learned so much that even the head of the project, Elise, was confused.

"Hey, Vic. Want to lend a hand?" he said with a distinct grin plastered on his face, pointing at his stubborn computer.

"No thanks, I'd rather not." Victor said as he pulled a colt .45 from his back waistband and hit James over the head, quickly downloading all of the computer files to disk as his friend slumped to the ground. Popping the disk from the drive, he walked towards the door and whispered a quiet, "I'm sorry, James. Trust me; I didn't want to do it." And without looking back, Victor stalked out the oak door, leaving his unconscious friend on the floor to be found the next morning.
