Annual Election & General Council Notice

The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma Annual Election and General Council meeting will be held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Royal Bay Marina Theater located at 11350 Hwy 59 North, Grove Oklahoma. All Tribal members who have met the membership requirements specified by the Tribal Constitution, are enrolled members of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, and are eighteen years of age or older on or before June 4, 2005 are eligible to vote.

Following is general information with regard to the election.

1. Positions to be filled:

(Filing Fee $50)
  • Chief (Two Year Term)
  • 1st Councilperson (Two Year Term)
  • 3rd Councilperson (Two Year Term)
  • 1st Grievance Committee Member (Two Year Term)
  • 3rd Grievance Committee Member (Two Year Term)
  • 5th Grievance Committee Member (Two Year Term)
  • 2. Questions, Issues, or Other Business Submitted to General Council Vote requiring notification - None

    3. Declaration of Candidacy - In order to file for the elected positions open, a candidate for a position must file in person and in writing a statement containing the following, in printed or typed format, to the Independent Contractor conducting the election or the Tribal Enrollment Officer.

    Candidate's name as will appear on the ballot; Candidate's mailing address and physical address if different than the mailing address (Street, box, City, State and Zip Code); Telephone number; elected office declaration filed for; copy of valid driver license; copy of Tribal membership card; and a signed statement of qualifcation as follows.

    I, the undersigned, do hereby solemnly swear and affirm that all facts contained on this, Declaration of Candidacy, are true and correct, and

    I am fully qualified, as provided within, Article II, of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma By-Laws to the Constitution, as follows:

    (a) I am not less than 25 years of age

    (b) I am a member of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, and

    (c) I reside within a radius of 150 miles in any direction from the Basset Grove Stomp Grounds.

    The foregoing written, Declaration of Candidacy, must be notarized with a seal affixed, submitted by the candidate in person and signed and dated by the Independent Contractor or Tribal Enrollment Officer on the following dates and times: between 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 7, 2005; Friday, April 8, 2005 or from 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 9, 2005. The, Declaration of Candidacy, for all positions must be accompanied by a non-refundable $50 filing fee paid in cash, certified check, or money order made payable to the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe. No person shall be a candidate for more than one office at any time.

    4. Polling Place: Royal Bay Marina Theater, 11350 Hwy 59 North, Grove, Oklahoma

    5. Polling Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

    6. Absentee Voting Procedures:

    The request for an absentee ballot must be in writing; signed, dated, and notarized, with proper seal affixed, and returned to; The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe-Election, P.O. Box 1208; Miami, OK. 74355. The request must contain, in printed or typed format, the tribal members: first, middle, last, and maiden names; mailing address (street, box, route number, city, county, state, and zip code); date of birth; membership roll number, and name exactly as it appears on the tribal membership card. Further, the request must contain the following statement above your signature.

    I, the undersigned, do solemnly swear or affirm that I am an enrolled member of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma. I further swear or affirm that I am eighteen years of age or older, or that I will be eighteen years of age on or before the date of the next ensuing election. I further swear or affirm that my voting rights are not being withheld due to punishment pursuant to the Laws, Ordinances, and the Corporate Charter of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma. I further swear or affirm that the information I have given above is true and correct. I, the undersigned, affirm that I understand that by requesting and receiving an Absentee Ballot I will not be allowed to vote at the Polling Place on the date set for the election.

    The absentee ballot request must be received by mail at, Seneca-Cayuga Tribe-Election; P.O. Box 1208; Miami, OK 74355 no later than 11:00 A.M. CST; Saturday, May 14, 2005. No exceptions will be made.

    Upon receipt of the absentee ballot, the completed ballot must be received by mail at, Seneca-Cayuga Tribe- Election; P.O. Box 1208; Miami, OK 74355 no later than 11:00 A.M. CST; Friday, June 3, 2005. No exceptions will be made.

    7. Counting of Votes - A candidate for an elected position may not be present during the counting of votes. If a candidate desires to have an individual observe the counting of votes, the candidate must submit, to the independent contractor, in person in writing, by 1:00 P.M. on the date of the election, the candidates name and the individual appointed to observe the vote counting.
