EASEMENTS ALREADY TRANSFERRED TO AURORA AND TRANSEND-HOBART-2-1-98 BR>
Thousands of easements across private land have already been transferred to the companies Aurora Pty Ltd and
Transend Networks Pty Ltd. Mr Gerard Gowans of the HEC said that the transfer notice detailing the transfer had been
posted in the Tasmanian Gazette of 25th June, 1998.
Mr Gowans said that the original contracts detailing the easements held by the HEC were located in various
groups of files held by the new companies, Aurora and Transend.
While the transfer of the easements meant the potential large scale transfer of property rights
to an unknown private company or companies, Mr Gowans said that the private land owner had access to
watchdogs such as the Electricity Regulator or the Ombudsman.
Mr Gowans said that in the future an easement for electricity purposes, would be acquired by agreement with
the property owner and the easement entered onto the owner's certificate of title for the land.
