DENR leads drive vs fake land titles

ZAMBOANGA CITY, May 10 (PNA) - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) will lead a project to cut down the proliferation of fake land titles in Western Mindanao.

The program to begin next month is aimed at neutralizing the issuance of fake or illegal land title by effecting preventive and remedial measures.

DENR Regional Executive Director Cipriano B. Paet has called for a consultative assembly among other concerned government agencies to come up with a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in the implementation of the program, dubbed as "Oplan: Fake Title."

The different agencies are the Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG), the Office of the Solicitor General, Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

Each office assured the DENR, as its lead agency of their full support for the success of the program.

Fake titles are those that do not possess the normal feature of the genuine ones, or those titles that are officially issued, but did not possess the standard procedures prescribed by existing laws, policies and regulations.

There is no estimate on the number of existing fake titles in the region, but Paet said scrutiny by the different agencies of titles under process will ferret out bogus ones. (PNA)
