A Eulogy for a Knesset Member
                     by Gary M. Cooperberg
                          July 7, 1994

A Member of Knesset died. Israeli officials and the local media, as would be expected,
devoted a goodly amount of time paying respect to this elected official of the Israeli
government.
On the surface this all seems very ordinary. But let's just scratch the surface and let the
stench begin to rise. This particular Knesset Member, like it or not, was an enemy of the
Jewish State and of the Jewish people. Tewfik Zayad, may he rot in hell, sought to destroy
the Jewish State from within. As mayor of the occupied town of Nazareth, he incited local
Arabs to participate in the intifada against the Jewish state.
Until recently it could have been said that such Arab Knesset Members were few in
number and had little influence upon national policy. Today we can already see clearly the
success of the steady erosion of national pride in the Jewish state affected by the constant
ranting of such Members of Knesset.
Could the most creative of thinkers have imagined, in his darkest nightmare, that the
foreign minister of Israel would one day apologize personally to Yasir Arafat for having
"oppressed" the "palestinian" people?
The present government of Israel has spat upon the graves of countless victims of Arab
terror by actually lending its approval to those acts of terror by virtue of its recognizing the
legitimacy of the PLO! Terrorists have been freed from prisons mainly because our
government has re defined their heinous crimes as acts of legitimate "liberation" of their
homeland.
And when one of the chief architects of this twisted policy of national suicide is killed
in a traffic accident due to his own personal reckless driving, the Knesset speaker refers to this
low- life terrorist thug as being of "blessed" memory! Perhaps he bestowed blessings upon
Yasir Arafat. He certainly brought nothing but curses upon the Jewish State.
And, today, as we listen to Arafat leading the mobs in Gaza with the chant, "with
blood and spirit we will liberate all of Palestine", we cannot fathom how, in spite of all this,
Peres and Rabin can go to Paris to help him shed more Jewish blood.
One no longer needs to be a visionary or a political scientist to predict what the
chances are for peace coming as a result of the current negotiations. While our government
persists upon living in a dream world, fantasizing about a new world of peace and tranquility,
most Arab leaders are openly declaring their goal to establish a Palestinian State upon Jewish
soil, and to obliterate the Jewish State. This goal has already seen the beginning of its
fulfillment. While Rabin and Peres call Gaza and Jericho autonomous zones, the Arabs call it
the first part of the total liberation of Palestine from the Jewish People.
Until now, we had the facts and the Arabs had only rhetoric. Now, thanks to the Oslo
Underground, we have the rhetoric and they are establishing facts. The momentum is not in
our favor and Rabin and Peres rush for "early empowerment" of the Terrorist Police Force
throughout Judea and Samaria.

To his credit, I cannot blame Tewfik Zayad for being faithful to his beliefs. Would that
we had Jewish leaders who served Jewish interests the way this Arab served the interest of his
people. The abomination is that those who presume to lead the Jewish Nation have
themselves created conditions which enable and encourage our worst enemies to destroy us
from within.
I am a believer in the rights of all peoples. Arabs do have rights and deserve to be able
to fulfill them. Had our leaders an iota of self respect and pride in their Jewish identity, they
also would have had respect for the feelings of our Arab cousins. No Arab has a natural right
to live in the Jewish homeland. Should he, in spite of this fact, wish to continue to live here it
can only be under the strict understanding that he will always be a non citizen and subservient
to the law of Israel, never being in a position which would cause Jews to depend upon him for
anything.
It was because our Jewish leaders deceived themselves by offering a false "equality" to
those whom they never expected to acquire it, that we today see our proud enemies rise up to
destroy us with the very lies we fed to them years ago. Yet we continue to lie to ourselves,
and, by so doing, only create conditions for an inevitable explosion... certainly not a peaceful
solution. Had we truly cared about our Arab cousins, we would have made it clear, from the
outset, that Israel is an exclusively Jewish homeland and that they would have no future here.
Had this been the case, the Arabs, who now are determined to wrest Israel from us, would
have had to make new lives in Arab countries and would have by now been productive citizens
in such places. Instead we have doomed their future and endangered our lives as well as
theirs.
The so called "Palestinians" are a No People. They have no past, no present, and
definitely, no future. They are a fictitious creation whose sole purpose for existing is to try to
destroy the Jewish State. The only way they could pose a threat to Israel is if we let them.
Not only have we let them, we have actively supported their very plans to destroy us. Even as
Arafat announces to the world the establishment of "Palestine" to which he fully expects to
annex Jerusalem as its capital, Rabin runs to Paris and glory as a "maker of peace", while he
continues to dismantle his own country. While declaring his loyalty to the Jewish State, he
continues to help Arafat build his new Arab one on top of us.
No, Tewfik Zayad was never the problem. He was just the result of the real enemies...
the Jewish self haters. It is Peres, Rabin, Beilin, Aloni, Sarid and a host of others who have
collectively, over the years, convinced themselves that the Jewish People may have a history,
but no future. As such they have actively worked against a Jewish future in Israel and in favor
of a "pluralistic" one, if not an Arab one, under which Jews would be modern ghetto dwellers.
Peace will not be found in Egypt, Washington, Oslo or Madrid. It will only be found
in Jerusalem. When the Jewish People, as a whole, recognizes its own pivotal role as peace
makers, merely by living up to our Divine destiny to live as proud Jews in our sovereign
homeland according to the guidelines of the eternal Law of G-d, that is when we will see
authentic peace.
