                 Miracle on Yoel Solomon Street
                   or the Great "Peace" Joke

A friend of mine recently told me that he could not understand why the Israeli Secret
Service was wasting so much time arresting innocent Jews from Kiryat Arba. He explained to
me that he personally knew of a high ranking IDF officer who was procuring weapons for
Arab terrorists. He also knew, for a fact, that some of these weapons have already been used
to murder Jews. This officer's identity is widely known, yet no one seems to care.
"Why don't the police arrest this officer and bring him to trial?", he asked me.
"Are you certain about your information?", I asked him.
"Beyond a shadow of a doubt," he replied. "As a matter of fact," he added, "you even
know who this officer is."
"I do?", I asked him incredulously. "What is his name?"
     "Yitzchak Rabin," he answered.
Were this some kind of a warped joke it might even be funny. It isn't funny. It isn't
even a joke.
On Sunday night, October 9, 1994 at about 11:30 pm, on Yoel Solomon Street in
Jerusalem, the nightlife was as lively as ever. The outdoor cafes were doing a good business,
but a sudden rain had forced the customers to leave their little tables under the Jerusalem skies
and find shelter inside the restaurants all along the street. This unexpected rain may well have
saved scores of Jewish lives.
Shortly after all the diners had vacated their outdoor tables two Arabs armed with
Kolotchnikov rifles and hand grenades ran down this, usually crowded but now nearly
deserted, street and began spraying the area with bullets. Nearly every window on the street
was shattered.
Seven hand grenades had been thrown, but none exploded. Although six people were
seriously injured, and many others less seriously, none of the people inside the restaurants
were killed.
A nineteen year old girl soldier and, ironically, an Arab civilian who happened to have been
outside on the street, were the only ones killed. The two Arab gunmen were shot dead by
police who arrived very quickly to the scene.
Although the Rabin government has been trying to deny it, one of the gunmen turns
out to have been a "Palestinian" policeman. The other had been an Israeli prisoner who had
been freed for "peace". Both came from Gaza.
In spite of bitter truths which, by now, should be obvious to all, my government is still
making even more "peace". Plans are being made to introduce more "policemen" into the
Jewish homeland in Judea and Samaria. Perhaps then it will be easier for Rabin and Peres to
dismantle Jewish settlements for "peace".
My friend's "joke" is even less "funny" today. But wait. There is even a sicker "joke"
to tell. We just heard that Prime Minister Rabin has been selected to share the Nobel Peace
Prize with arch terrorist Arafat! Is anybody laughing?
