Known worldwide for its combat-proven, long-range day and night target acquisition, the OH-58D offers unparalleled war-fighting capabilities. Armed with HELLFIRE anti-tank missiles, STINGER air-to-air missiles, Hydra 70 (70mm) rockets, and 12.75 mm machine guns, it is capable of destroying a wide range of targets. It has the lowest infrared signature of any U.S. Army helicopter, a low acoustic signature and a significantly reduced radar cross section. Moreover, the Kiowa Warrior accurately locates targets both day and night out to 12 kilometers, can be armed and ready to fight less than 10 minutes after being off-loaded from a C-130, and offers multi-purpose, quick-change kits for mission application flexibility. In the Persian Gulf conflict, OH-58D´s based on vessels sailing in the Arabian Gulf proved highly successful in halting attacks on oil tankers by high-speed hostile gunboats. During Operation Desert Storm, the Kiowa Warrior had the highest readiness rate of any helicopter.
