DE LA CIERVA C.40

El C.40 fue un desarrollo del C.30 para hacerlo biplaza, con un motor Salmson 9NG de 175 hp. La British Aircraft Manufacturing Co. montó nueve C.40 en 1938. Una cabeza de rotor mejorada, probada ya en el C.30, permitía que el autogiro despegase en la vertical mediante la aceleración del rotor con las palas en ángulo de ataque cero y luego de obtener la velocidad de rotación situarlas en ángulo positivo a fin de originar sustentación.

The C.40 was developed from the C.30, with a two-place cockpit and a Salmson 9Ng 175 hp engine. The British Aircraft Manufacturing Co. produced nine C.40 s in 1938. An improved rotor system, already proven in the C.30, allowed the autogyro to take off vertically by acceleration of the rotor with the blades at zero angle of attack, and after reaching sufficient rotation speed placing the blades into a positive angle of attack in order to produce lift.
