click on logo to see A.R.E.S. site Manitoulin Amateur Radio Emergency Services A.R.E.S. (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) is now part of the Manitoulin Amateur Radio Club. Our club president Allan BOYD VE3AJB saw a real need for emergency communications being required should a disaster hit Manitoulin. Being in a remote area of Ontario and the island being feed with only one major hydro and telephone line should a disaster hit the island it could very easily be cut off from the rest of the province. Allan VE3AJB was appointed in May of this year as a A.R.E.S. Emergency Coordinator for the District of Manitoulin by the R.A.C. (Radio Amateur of Canada) organization. Allan VE3AJB who is a Provincial Constable with the Ontario Provincial Police is presently devising a plan to work with other Emergency Organizations in conjunction with the O.P.P. with the Manitoulin Amateur Radio Club being a vital link in communications. A training course is set to run this fall with most members of the club being trained as A.R.E.S. operators.
