During Winter Quarter of 1996, I took a Policy Studies class (on the American Presidency!) taught by none other than my favorite Greek Democrat, Michael S. Dukakis. Apparantly after he lost to Bush in 1988 he became a professor in the Political Science Department at Northeastern University in Massachussets. UCLA invited him to Westwood during the Winter quarter and he accepted, as his wife Kitty was doing work in the Medical Center and his kids and grandkids were nearby. He's a nice guy... a tough grader though. Gave me a B for a final grade, and that was tough as it was. The Wisdom of Mike convinced me to take up Political Science as a major at UCLA (for one quarter), but I ended up switching to English.

DUKAKIS UPDATE: Did you see Mike being interviewed on CNN and NBC during the Democratic Convention? It seems that he's getting lots of publicity these days. I even noticed a cameo of him at that convention, cheering Bill Clinton during the president's speech with his wife Kitty by his side. It's all of his master plan, see? Remember: Dukakis in 2000!

MORE DUKAKIS NEWS: The Ex-Governor returned to UCLA this Winter 1997 quarter to teach a course on Policy-making and some other upper-division political science subject. I was considering trying for another round of Dukakis this year, but I figured I've already had enough exposure to Mike to last a lifetime.

I was able to talk to Mike before he left for Boston and he told me that he was really enthusiastic about guest teaching at UCLA and plans to make it a regular occurance! Go Mike!

MORE MIKE: It's official... Dukakis now comes to UCLA to teach a Policy Studies / Political Science course every Winter! Yet another reason to be a Bruin!

Latest Dukakis News (2/07/02) Looks like the Governor is now the Chairman of Amtrak! Best of luck to him as he tries to keep the rails running smoothly in America.
