C-O.K.E.E. is a NONPROFIT CORPORATION organized by a diverse group of professionals who together seek to sustain and renew one of the few remaining pristine ecosystems in Florida formed by the Kissimmee River, Lake Okeechobee and The Everglades.

In August of 1997, a group of local professional people met at the Okeechobee Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the meeting was to form a non-profit group that would soon become known as C-O.K.E.E.


STATEMENT:

This nonprofit corporation is organized and shall be operated for educational, scientific, literary, or charitable purposes, together with the goal to provide educational opportunities, classes, seminars, field trips, scientific study and research to disseminate information to the general public, to inform and educate the public as to the existence and nature of the ecosystem of the Everglades, local agribusiness or public and private land stewards in the State Of Florida and particularly in South Florida and the Everglades region surrounding Lake Okeechobee.


PURPOSE:

To fund educational & scientific programs and research for area schools and organizations in primarily the area of ecology.

Tours and educational programs are available to the public to show the delicate ecosystem and why it is important to preserve nature.

Future plans include:

Summertime educational experience for high school juniors to study the environment.

Internships for environmentalists.

Teaching museum which shows life as it was and how alterations have impacted the environment.

Native tropical garden and boardwalk.

C-OKEE MEETINGS are held the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM. in the confrence room at the Osceola Middle School in Okeechobee Florida.

Our next meeting is on November 19th. and there will be no meeting in December due to holidays.
