Cantabria: Embálse del Ebro and Puénte Viesgo

Embalse del Ebro - The lake of the river Ebro

Around the middle of the Tertiary Age (Miocene period), this outlying part in the valley of the Ebro, got dried; and sandy, argillo-calcareous lands settled here and made up the composition of the soil.

The Ebro river, which is the longest in the whole of Spain and its tributaries have eroded the sandstones and shaped the area, leaving the mark of deep cliffs and hills that determine its particular landscape covered with vineyards.

Its geographic location, climate and the composition of the soil make this area well known for the richness and quality of its wines.

The lake has a size of 7.700 hectars. It is situated in 835m highness, the widthness is 4km and the lake is 20 km long. The Ebro lake belongs to the province "Burgos" in Spain (it is not Cantabria!).
