Hockey Violence: When Is It Acceptable?
Thunder Bay Police detectives were called following a Sept. 30 game at the Tournament Centre between the Junior B Northern Hawks and the Thunder Bay ScotiaMcLeod Major Midget Kings.
During the game, a Kings player was sitting on the bench when he was allegedly struck in the throat by a stick from a Northern Hawks player. The 16 year old Kings player was taken to hospital after being knocked unconcious. The 21 yr old player for the Hawks was arrested and charged for assault with a weapon. He was later released with a promise to appear. Among the conditions of his release, he is not to attend at or play games involving the Kings. How far do we go with hockey violence…if it had happened on the ice, would he be charged, or just given a few minutes in the penalty box. What is acceptable and non-acceptable hockey violence? Was this punishment too much? It’s your turn, share your views with us by calling (807) 766 7207 during show times or e-mail [email protected] 2006-11-12 03:10:57 GMT
