Camp Wirribara

Nipissing Area's Scout Camp

Nipissing Area's Scout camp is set among the tall pines on Little Clear Lake in Boulter Twp. ('A' marks the spot on the map), just northwest of Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park. With two bunkhouses, a cottage, a dining room/kitchen and washroom facilities, Wirribara is a popular site with Nipissing Area Scout Groups. Five dollars of each youth's membership fee goes to support this facility.

Getting there

Route 1 - The most direct way from North Bay is:

- South on Hwy. 11 to Chiswick Line (the southernmost exit to Powassan);
- East on Chiswick Line, past Chiswick to Gravelle Road;
- South on Gravelle Road to Pioneer Road;
- East on Pioneer Road to the camp entrance.

This route is well-signed but the final 10 kilometres can be rough, occasionally rutted, with many rocks, and with several steep hills. Drive slowly and carefully when using this route, especially in cars or vehicles with low suspension.

Route 2 - Less direct, more confusing and with fewer signs, but easier on vehicles, is approaching from the north. It is outlined in blue on the map:

- East on Hwy. 17 from North Bay to Rutherglen;
- Turn South on Rutherglen Line (behind Pro Hardware, off Park St.) for 2 km;
- Turn West at T-junction with Moreau Road/Development Road for 1 km;
- Turn South at Farmers Line for 2 km;
- Turn East at T-junction with Boxwell/Laplante Road for 300 metres;
- Turn South at Gauy Road for 2 km;
- Turn West at Grand Desert Road for 300 metres;
- Turn South at Boundary Road for 1.8 km;
- Stay left at fork in road (yield sign) for 2 km;
- Turn West at end of Boundary Road (houses) for 8 km;
- Camp Wirribara sign will be on your left.

Though the road is in much better condition, caution is still advised, especially in the spring.
