TAKE THESE STEPS TO GET REPAIRS DONE
Make your landlord obey the law!



[ ] Speak to your landlord. Describe the problem and what needs to be done.

[ ] Write to your landlord requesting repairs. If nothing happens,

[ ] Start a journal and write down your actions. In the journal, keep all your letters, photos, notes, names of inspectors and contractors, estimates and reciepts for any costs you paid for.

[ ] Take pictures of the disrepair.

[ ] Make an appointment with a Municipal Inspector to look at the problems and issue a work order to your landlord.

IF YOU WANT COMPENSATION

[ ] Go to the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal at 79 St. Clair Avenue East, Suite 211. File a Tenant Application About Maintenance. (Form T6).

[ ] Serve a copy of your application and the Notice of Hearing to your landlord.

[ ] Deliver or fax the Certificate of Service to the Tribunal.

[ ] Organize your evidence of the disrepair, and your claims.

[ ] Don't be late for the hearin!. Arrive at least 15 minutes early.

[ ] Present your evidence and ask for an order to make your landlord to do the repairs and compensate you for the costs and inconvenience you have had because of the problems.
