CALGARY'S BULMER WINS NATIONAL ONE-METRE DIVING CROWN

EDMONTON
Erin Bulmer of Calgary earned a seventh career Canadian diving title on Thursday at the 1999 Summer Nationals.

Bulmer totaled 288.03 points for the win, just two points shy of her national record. Blythe Hartley of North Vancouver was second at 278.34 and Anne-Jose Dionne of Montreal third at 274.70.

"The one-metre is a good warm-up for the three-metre and winning tonight gives me a lot of confidence," said Bulmer, who was born and raised in Edmonton.

On men's 10-metre, after the semifinals, Christopher Kalec of Montreal leads at 551.19, Tony Revitt of Vancouver is second at 547.71 and Jeff Liberty of Calgary is third at 518.64.

Defending champion Alexandre Despatie of Montreal is not competing on tower this weekend. He is nursing a slight back injury plus he achieved his season goal of gaining an Olympic quota spot in the event for Canada last month.

The competition also serves as team trials for the Pan-Am Games July 24th to August 8th in Winnipeg.

The top two on women's three and 10-metre and the winners on men's three and 10-metre qualify for the games.

Competition continues Friday.
