Balugo Baloney
Congratulations Fr. Renato upon your election as our General. You can be
assured of our prayers here in Balugo.
Fr. Frank, thanks so much for your inspiration and support as General of our
Order. We Marino boys are proud of you.
Fr. Ivo, we welcome you back as our Provincial. May God give you good health
and guide you as you lead the Philippine Province in providing the poor sick
with the health care they so badly need.
The Local National elections are finally over as bodies are buried, votes
are ‘sorted out’ and pesos awarded for selective voting are spent. Here in
Balugo no bodies were found lying around, no ballots tampered with and no
votes bought. Things were peaceful here.
Looks like the E-Vat man won’t make it to the senate. Maybe he can help his
wife run Batangas. This may change before publication of Balugo Baloney.
Depends on the ‘voting’ in Western Mindanao. Honest? You figure it out.
Enough of this political Baloney.
One evening I was sitting on my porch enjoying my favorite beverage – milk?
– when I saw a blue-white light flash by my place. Hey, did I imbibe too
much milk? Nope it was a meteor racing by. First one I ever saw. Was a
pretty sight.
Health Care News: A new law has been signed into effect by the
president. It was originated in the Senate by Senator Cayetano. Here it is
in a nut shell: Private hospitals can’t hold any charity patients until they
pay their hospital bill. All they have to do is sign a promissory note.
Here’s the hook – only 1 out of 10 patients who sign such a note pay their
bill, other more inventive patients give fictitious names and addresses. How
can a private hospital continue to exist without payment? They will just
treat the well-to-do. And ignore the poor. The doctors and nurses are
leaving in droves. Now the private hospitals will be facing a financial
crisis. Are the public hospitals able to cope with the anticipated overflow?
I don’t think so.
Will there be rallies supporting the private hospitals’ position? Don’t
think so, I wonder why not. You figure it out.
Until next month, Fr. Tom Welu, OSC
