Goddess Costume

This costume was a school project- the theme was 'Naked' and I chose to study Botticelli and the Renaissance painters. This costume borrows heavily from Botticelli's Venus in the painting, 'Venus and Mars'. Botticelli seems to clothe his sprites in transparent fabrics, so not as to conceal but adorn the body.
This costume took about one week, and masses of white muslin and gold ribbon to complete. ^^

Here's an extract from my Self-Evaluation in my folio:
"This costume relates to the theme 'naked' as the muslin from which it is made is semi-transparent. The gown is intended purely to beautify the body, and is not concerned with covering nakedness. The construction of the garment went smoothly from start to finish, and as I had no pattern to work from, I was extremely pleased it pieced together so well...
...My costume was heavily influenced by Venus' gown in "Mars and Venus". It would have been interesting to extend upon this design and personalise it a bit more. I also could have tried experimenting with fabric colouring. Overall, this project was very successful."
