Identikit
This was somewhat of a "stocking filler" brief at college- something short and snappy. I decided to have a bit more fun with the concept though. ^^
The aim was to create a design. *any* design, based on a barcode, and making some kind of statement. I immediately connected the barcode with "identification". I sensed that a lot of people would connect it with technology and the impersonality technology brings, but a barcode is simple a set of features arranged in a certain way so that a cash register can recognise it. Not unlike the positioning of features on the human face.
A woman with a purpose, I hacked into my little sisters teen magazines to find dramatic, close up photographs of beautiful people, and messed around with photoshop until i got the effect I wanted. I then scrounged up a whole bunch of pretty paper scraps I'd been hoarding and printed out the images as a series of clothing tags. I came up with the concept of a clothing botique chain called "identikit", the uh... *philosophy* behind the company being that like a face or barcode or whatever, the clothes you wear, and the way you wear them presents your own distinct identity to the public. So.... Identikit is copyrighted to ME! (sticks out tongue in a feeble attempt to protect her wonderful idea).
