CD Cover: Void
This was a design piece I put together last year for my application to University.
(a Bachelor degree in Multimedia Design). I had to travel to the capital city for the
interview, and I was *so* incredibly nervous, but I got accepted into the course, YAY!
(I declined the offer to study and work in my hometown for awhile though).
The brief asked that we think back to an event in our lives that had a profound effect
on us. Just recently, a schoolmate of mine named Hannah died from a
diabeties-induced coma. We had never really been good friends, but I was so ... hurt,
I guess, that someone I knew, someone so young could be taken away from this
life so suddenly and unfairly. It's weird... when I was younger, I could just always
picture Hannah's face as a grown up, she had that "old soul" look about her eyes
sometimes. :) And she had the *best* smile. It was unreal. I found a picture of her and her smile in
my highschool yearbook, drew a little sketch in charcoal and scanned it into photoshop. I made the concept into a cd cover,
the tracks representing stages in my life. I overlaid pictures of pansies over the top, pansies symbolising "thoughts". In the bottom corner there's a quote of Shakespeare's:
"There's rosemary, that's for rememberance; pray, love, remember; and there is pansies, that's for thoughts."
I've thought about Hannah an awful lot. She cropped up in many dreams of mine for awhile there, as if the news of her death was just a big mistake. I just hope that wheveever she is, she's happy.
