Doctrine of Salvation
Lesson 1

Purpose of  lesson:  Acts 26:18.
Question 1:  Why do we need Salvation?
Question 2:  What from?

In order to be saved (found, delivered from being lost), a person must first be lost.  That is to realize that there is nothing a person can do to save themselves.  A person must see themself as a sinner, before they will ever realize their need for the savior.   Romans 3:23

The origin of sin:
A brief summary is that Satan was the highest of the Angels, he was lifted up with pride and thought he was better than God for this he was kicked out of heaven.  Luke 10:18  The lake of fire was created for the devil and the angels which followed him.  By deceiving Eve into sinning he brought the condemnation of hell on her, Adam was deceived through Eve.   Though Genesis 3:6 appears that Adam did not take as long to be led into sin as Eve. Adam is the one who is credited with sinning, historically.

Genesis 2:16, 17 & 3:1-7  The fall.  Adam and Eve both sinned against God.  Both of them ate of the forbidden fruit.  Thus by falling into sin they fell into the condemnation that was meant for the Devil and his angels.  They rejected God’s leading and followed the Devil.  They left the will of God and submitted to the will of the Devil. Either they were in complete submission to God or they could be in submitted to the Devil, but not both.  When we sin we are no longer submitted to God.

Genesis 3:14-19, 22-24  The curse.  Death came upon all men verse 19, 22 One shows that Physical death is a curse of sin, there is also Spiritual death.    From Adam we all are dead in our trespasses and sins prior to salvation.  Romans 5:12  We have a sin nature, a propensity to sin.  I Cor 15:22

Dead people cannot do anything, because they are dead.  There is nothing they can do to raise themselves to life. The same is true of the unbeliever, there is nothing he can do to save himself.  Only the Jesus Christ who was perfect was able to raise Himself to life, and it was because of His perfection and deity that He was able to do so. He alone is able to raise anyone to spiritual life.  Without Christ no one can raise themselves to life.

We are born sinful and continue therein.  Psalms 51:5, 58:3  We are born into the physical life a sinner by nature.

John 3: 1-8, 16-20  The Holy Spirit gives us birth through the blood of Jesus Christ.  Jesus paid the penalty, and the Holy Spirit breathes into us life.  Did you choose to be born in the physical life?  The obvious answer is no. You did not have a choice in whether or not you were going to be born into this world.  The life you have was given to you.  The same is true of spiritual life, without Christ everyone is dead and unable to do anything to give birth to themselves.  The Holy Spirit through the blood of Christ is where spiritual birth comes from and not from anything we do.  Ephesians 2:8,9  Not of works, we are unable to save ourselves.
