How to print
full-sized maps across multiple pages on your home printer
Requirments: MS-Windows XP Home Edition
with MS-Paint v5.1 (older versions may work too if a "scaling" option
exists in File|Page Setup)
For this example we will print the
DRAFT Lake County bike routes map
at
http://www.geocities.com/calumetcitizens/Lake_County.GIF
Directions:
Bring up the map in your browser.
Right click on it, click on "Save Image As", find a suitable location
on your hard drive to store the file, and click on "Save". I recommend
leaving the filename "Lake_County.GIF" intact.
Left click on the "start" button then "All Programs",
"Accessories", and "Paint" to launch MS-Paint.
In MS-Paint, left click on "File" and
"Open" and select your saved copy of Lake_County.GIF. It will take a
little while to load.
Once loaded, click on "File" and
"Page Setup".
Set Orientation to Portrait.
Set all margins to 0.75.
Un-check both Horizontal and Vertical
in Centering.
Set Scaling to Fit to: 4 by 6
page(s).
Left click "OK".
Left click "File" and "Print".
Your map will print 4 pages across by
six pages down.
