Phone calls are still a very important channel for many businesses, especially those that offer complex or high-value products or services. According to a study by BIA/Kelsey, phone calls to businesses driven by mobile search are expected to reach 169 billion per year by 2023. Phone calls are also more likely to result in sales than web leads, as they have a higher conversion rate and a higher average order value.
However, tracking phone calls can be challenging, especially if you have multiple marketing sources and campaigns. How do you know which online source or campaign led to a phone call? How do you attribute the phone call to the right marketing channel and measure its return on investment (ROI)?
This is where Dynamic Number Insertion (DNI) comes in. DNI is a call-tracking feature that allows you to assign a unique phone number to each online source or campaign and then display that phone number to the visitors who arrive at your website via that source or campaign. By doing this, you can track and measure the phone calls that each source or campaign generates and optimize your marketing strategy accordingly.
Dynamic Number Insertion works by using a piece of code that you insert into your website or landing page. This code detects the source or campaign that brought the visitor to your website and then replaces the default phone number on your website with a unique tracking phone number that corresponds to that source or campaign. The tracking phone number is then displayed to the visitor and recorded in your call tracking software.

When a visitor clicks on your Google Ads and lands on your website, they will see a phone number that is different from the one that a visitor who clicks on your Facebook Ads will see.
