MONARCHS
REIGN SUPREME
Finally! The Kansas City Monarchs rebuilding is complete as the
team claims it's first ever California League Championship, with a 2-1 win
over the Ohio Outlaws. Just a year after being swept aside in the
World Series by the Beavers, the Monarchs got some payback with a four games
to one series win.
Congratulations to Jorge and his Monarchs! Also, I
thank you all for yet another fantastic season of California League Baseball
and I will see you all in April 2002 for year number 17.

GREEN JOINS
BEAVERS
Encino, Ca -- John Fleming, out
of the league for nearly three years, got back in the loop very quickly
Monday, sending all-star Outfielder Shawn Green to the Van Nuys Beavers in
exchange for outfielder Richard Hidalgo, first baseman Nick Johnson and
pitchers Kaz Sasaki and CC Sabathia. Said Fleming, "We addressed
some major concerns with this deal. We were able to add depth to our
pitching staff, and get an amazing talent in Hidalgo in one deal. This type
of deal should send a message to baseball that we intend to build a
championship club for the long haul."
