A quick and dirty site to document my struggle with Morgellons Disease.
I've been afflicted with an undiagnosed and incurable [so it seems] skin
condition for about a year and a half. I've been to at least a dozen different
doctors and have gotten a variety of different diagnoses and been given dozens
of different "cures", all completely ineffective. One night I was listening to
"Coast to Coast AM" radio show with George Norris and he had a segment on a
mysterious, [apparently] incurable skin disease which appears to be reaching
epidemic proportions in the US. It sounded a lot like what I had been
experiencing so I checked out the disease website http://www.morgellons.org and
was absolutely shocked on opening the site - the micrographs and pictures on
the first page of the site looked exactly like the dozens of pictures I had
taken in order to document and diagnose my disease.
My Story
I'm an engineer/computer scientist who contracted an infestation of
Tunga Penetras (commonly known as the "sand flea") in tropical southern
Florida in early Sept. 2003. Also probably pertinent to this : I have been
diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an auto-immune disease, since 1994, which
means I have a severely compromised immune system; for instance, I'm one
of those people who must get a flu vaccination - if I catch the flu chances
are things would get very unpleasant.
I got the (then, to me) unknown bug from a group of unwashed Haitians which
I has been kind enough to give a ride to; after they exited my van... More...
A regimen that has worked for me
I went at this disease as if it were a parasitic disease and have developed
a regimen of conventional medications based on the assumption that the disease
is simply some known or unknown filial parasite which has developed a complete
lifecycle totally internal to the human body; no external vectors are required
for the reproduction of the causitive agent. There is some support for this theory
in the literature and maybe someday I'll spend the time to re-lookup all that
stuff and post the URLs here. On to the cure...

eMedicine - Bancroftian Filariasis : Article by Michael D Nissen
NOTE: Morgellons disease is definitely NOT Bancroftian Filariasis BUT it does appear to be filarial and the cure should be similar. Note that the Ivermectin dosage recommended in the article is way dated - current practice is 400 micrograms per kilogram; about 1/50th of what this article recommends. The lower dosage has been found to be as effective in eradicating the parasite but much safer for the host. There is a small percentage of the human population which has a severe reaction to Ivermectin; the lower dosage is much safer - the higher dosage can produce coma and death in sensitive people. Ask Your Doctor Before Starting Any Medications!!!
