Sickle Crested Bird of Paradise (Cnemophilus macgregorii)

Whereas male bowerbirds use art to attract potential mates, many birds of paradise rely on their incomparable beauty of their plumage, which is often ornamented with long, decorative tail and crest feathers.

The Sickle Crested Bird of Paradise is a fruit-eating species named for its unique crest of fine filaments. The male birds probably display to passing groups of females at solitary arenas but this has never been described. The nest, built by the female, is a bulky dome of mosses and leaves on a stick foundation and is much more elaborate than the nests of other species.
