Brown Sicklebill

Brown Sicklebill (Epimachus meyeri)

The male has an extremely long tail and plumage is a sooty brown. Female has a somewhat shorter tail and a diagnostic blue (not brown) iris. Brown Sicklebills are found only in the upper montane zone, from 2,000 to 3,100 m and are restricted to primary moss forest with large trees. The male calls loudly for about half an hour at dawn from some of the highest branches in the forest.
