Wahnes' Parotia (Parotia wahnesi)

Although little is known about the behavior of this species, the courtship ritual of the Wahnes' Parotia has been observed. In preparation for wooing the female, the male chooses an area about six feet in diameter. The bird then proceeds to meticulously clear the space for its mating performance. It is believed that two males prepare their display arenas together, possibly sharing the arduous task of removing debris from the forest floor.
