FOREWORD
This is one of a series of Genealogical Research Notes on the Matkins
family lines in North America and England. The purpose of these reports is to
catalog or group together the descendants of each immigrant ancestor to North
America, that is the United States and Canada. In this note, the family of H
G Matkins, born about 1831 in South Carolina, is listed. H G Matkins was
living in Good Hope, Leak County, Mississippi, in 1880.

INTRODUCTION
This is a short history of H G Matkins, born in 1831 in South Carolina.
At the present time, the only record of H G Matkins is a census record from
Leak County, Mississippi, in 1880 [1].

SUMMARY
H G Matkins was born about 1831 in South Carolina. His wife was named
Julia. Julia was born about 1840 in Alabama.
H G Matkins may have been in the Civil War. Peal Matkins may have been H
G Matkins first child, born in 1867 in Alabama. My theory is that H G married
Julia after the Civil War in 1866. H G might have been a relative (perhaps a
son) of Ezekiel Matkin from South Carolina; Ezekiel migrated with his family
to Alabama.
H G and Julia Matkins lived in Alabama until after 1871 or 4 years after
the birth of the son, Peal. Their son, John, was born in 1871 in Alabama. In
1874, they had a daughter, Mary, born in Mississippi.
In 1880, this family was living in Good Hope, Leak County, Mississippi
[1]. H G was age 49 and Julia was 40. Their children's ages were: Peal, age
13; John, age 9; and Mary, age 6.

An A G Matkins, his wife, Julia, and three children were living in Leak
County, Mississippi, in 1880 [2]. This record shows that A G was age 49 (born
about 1831) in South Carolina. His wife, Julia, age 40 (born about 1840) was
born in Alabama. Their children were listed as: Peal Matkins, age 13 (born
about 1867 in Alabama); John Matkins, age 9 (born about 1871 in Alabama); and
Mary Matkins, age 6 (born about 1874 in Mississippi).
A G Matkins is assumed to have moved from Alabama into Mississippi,
probably Leak County, between 1971 and 1874.
