Riding west out of Gillsburg, I turned onto Bean Road. I was in the groove enjoying the winter scenery and colors.
You can kid a Southerner about a lot of things and we laugh at ourselves via Foxworthy and other local comedians, but, The War is off limits. A fresh battle flag next to a soldier's grave is common place. The American flag could use a little refreshing. Symbolic, maybe. If we gave a damn about supporting our country as much as they did, no one would mess with us.
Bean went south and I turned off on Stewart Cemetery Road, still going west to Stewart Cemetery.
Ray Fagan says that a good many of the Revolutionary and War of 1812 soldiers ended up settling out here because they were paid for their service  in land that the British had owned and lost. Mississippi is full of DAR marked graves.
I just found out there was a Revoultionary War battle around Baton Rouge.
